Fantastic List. What did you think of The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. It is one of my favourites, but few here on Listology seem to have read it. The movie is equally as brilliant.

I loved The Outsiders when I read it. That was such a long time ago, it might be worth a revisit.

I didn't care for the movie as much, probably because of my irrational disklike of Matt Dillon, but I still thought it was pretty good.

Matt Dillon is greatly under-rated (IMHO), a popular target. I recommend you try to get to see him in 'Drugstore Cowboy' where he plays a desperate junkie or 'Crash' where he he plays initially an ugly racist cop but ends up an uplifting hero. The Outsiders is one of my all-time favourite movies, directed by Francis Ford Copola, stunning photography, brilliant storyline, fabulous theme song by Stevie Wonder, and an incredible cast - including a cameo by author S.E. Hinton (as a nurse) and a very young Sofia Copola (credited as 'Domino') - daughter of the director and herself later director of 'Lost In Translation'. This great movie almost does the book justice.

I have seen both Drugstore Cowboy and Crash. And you're right; he did a really great job in both. I actually think he's really talented.

I still can't stand to watch him though. Just looking at him annoys me for some reason, and I have no idea why...

He’s not the only one either. I think there are several actors who (regardless of their talent) I just can’t stand to watch… hmm, I might see a new list coming on.

Regarding Matt Dillon, Im the same exact way so dont feel alone on that. I have no idea why, but he bothers me...he really really bothers me and he is the reason why I havent seen Drugstore Cowboy and Crash Ill never watch because it looks like a giant bowl of mushy crap (no offense to your tastes of course, but thats how I feel about those kinds of movies).

Regarding your list, there are a lot I dont recognize, but of the ones that I do, it looks like youre into SF and mystery/horror. I noticed that you only have ONE Dick book...THAT needs to change my good man. Highly recommended are:

OK... I'm seriously going to go out and find some Philip K Dick books right now. He's another of those authors I've always intended to read and somehow have never gotten around to.

But don't you worry. I feel appropriately reprimanded. I WILL read more as soon I can get my hands on some.

If you liked 'Catcher In The Rye' I can recommend 'Ash Wednesday' by Ethan Hawke.
If you like Robert Silverberg I can recommend 'Dying Inside' by Robert Silverberg .
If you like Thomas Hardy I can recommend 'Tess of the Durbervilles' &nbsp and &nbsp 'Jude The Obscure'.

Thanks for the suggestions, professor! Tess and Jude have been on my big list of "books I'm going to get around to reading someday" for a long time, but I've got to admit I'm not as big a fan of Hardy's prose as I would like to be. I love his poetry, but so far my limited exposure to his prose has left me a little hesitant to try again. Of course I keep telling myself, “Someday. Someday."

Now Silverberg I definitely like. I’ve got a few of his books on my shelves at home just waiting for me to get around to them. Dying Inside isn’t one of them, but I think it will be soon now that I’ve seen its description online.

Dying Inside is my favourite from my list of Robert Silverberg novels.

I know what you mean about Hardy. His descriptions of his characters' motivations can seem interminable, but I love the total package within each novel.

I'm very impressed that you managed to get through seventeen of Piers Anthony's novels. I can never make to the end of any of his work.

Wow, until you said it I never would have believed I'd read seventeen Piers Anthony novels. That was phase I went through quite awhile ago.

For some reason I can't remember now, I started keeping a list of science fiction and fantasy novels I'd read some time around eight grade or so. I kept it pretty consistently until I graduated from high school I think. Anyway, I found a copy of it in an old notebook when I was cleaning out some boxes shoved into the back of the garage a few years ago. It amused me enough that I decided I would start keeping a list again, and now here I am.

I've heard so many rumors about an Ender movie for so long that it's become easy to believe that it will never happen. Reading through some of the comments on that message board though makes it sound like they may actually do it. I shudder to think how awful it could be. I just can't imagine anyone doing the story justice on film.

Piers Anthony's 'Xanth' novels were some of the first novels I ever read. He uses puns all the time (which I hate) but they are fun reads.
The 'Xanth' novels are the only books of his I enjoyed. I tried to read this other book, 'the red sword' or something like that, and I couldn't get through it. Didn't make sense, didn't like it. That was a awhile ago though..maybe I should try again.

You might want to consider the 'Dragonlance' series as well, if you haven't read any of them yet(they might be on your list already, I could've missed them). The series is written by several different authors, and if you like fantasy, then you might enjoy them. I recommend Autumn's Twilight, Winter Night, and Spring Dawning.

Nah, I wouldn't bother trying again: Piers Anthony is famous for making no sense. Plus I tried reading that book as well, and couldn't get through more than 20 or so pages.

Yeah, the Ender thing was a little scary. IE: Wolfgang Peterson (of Poseidon, Troy, and The Perfect Storm) was supposed to direct. There were apparently rumours of Michael Bay being on the project as well. *shudder*
